A mysterious IT issue has taken down the online reporting tool for cybercrime victims in Britain, the blogosphere reports.

To be sure, Action Fraud is the public-facing organizational body which supports cybercrime victims of online fraud in the United Kingdom.

Action Fraud isn't an investigative body per se but refers online fraud crimes to the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau which is administered by the City of London Police.

Its online reporting tool has been mysteriously hacked earlier today due to unspecified IT issues which its technical team is still working to find a solution.

Action Fraud has stated that it is "aware that some people are experiencing various difficulties with our online reporting tool and apologises for any inconvenience this has caused."

In mid-2015, the private company which ran Action Fraud's call centre, Broadcasting Support Services (BSS) went bankrupt amid several complaints about its ability to run the service.

In one specific case, the BSS was forced to pay a fine after another IT issue lost the details of more than 2,000 cases of online fraud. It's been a nasty and embarassing problem for the U.K.

A spokesperson for the City of London Police told us today that IT engineers and technicians were currently working to repair the issue, though it was unclear how long it may take to find a resolution.

They added that it didn't appear to be related to any malicious attacks against the site, but that the investigation is ongoing.
